I believe the figure is like 1 out of every 4 people you meet who is Iranian has a nose job. Being the way that they are, most Iranians who live in the States make a trip to Iran to get their nose jobs done and usually it’s during their summer breaks (yes that means that they are still in high school, college, or grad school and their parents are paying for it).
Here is an outline of a typical nose job process that an Iranian goes through: Someone makes a joke about their nose or they see a movie star and compare their nose with that of the movie star’s. They go home to cry about it and their mom asks them whats wrong. They tell their mom that they think their nose is big and they want a nose job. Their mom says yes, but because it is expensive in the States they’ll go to Iran over the summer and get it done by one of the millions of doctors that exist in Iran, who might I remind you are all the best and even better than any Harvard or Johns Hopkins graduate doctors. They go to Iran, visit family and friends, get the nose job, stay in Iran until they can remove the bandages, and then fly back to the States where they begin to complain about other things wrong with their face.
The thing that I wonder about is if an Iranian has trouble getting back into the states after such a job has been done. I say this because of the fact that the picture in their passport is more than likely drastically different than how they look at the airport. How do they get passed security in London, Frankfurt, or wherever with all of the security measures that are taking place in global airports? I suggest that Iranians should disclose to the proper authorities that they are going to get a nose job and that they should have a special stamp over their current picture that says, “may alter upon arrival” or “nose job eminent” or something to that effect.
Seriously, if you don’t believe me go to Iran (yes, I have been there. As a legitimate researcher I need to see them in their natural habitat) and count how many people have bandages around their nose. Or just read this article http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/05/02/eveningnews/main692495.shtml (crazy right?). You can’t count the number of jobs in the States because as I have outlined above by the time they get back they have already removed the bandages and the scaring and bruises have gone away.
As a side note this is true for both men and women.
